What we collect, which is very little

We ask for an email address and nothing else. No ad networks, no profiles, no selling anything about you.

The short version: we collect as little as we can get away with, we do not sell anything about you, and the only thing we actively ask for is an email address you can remove yourself from in one click.

What we collect

If you join the email list

The list is not open yet. When it is, we will hold your email address and the date you signed up. That is it. We use it to send the newsletter described at the point of signup and nothing else. Every email has an unsubscribe link that works immediately, and you can ask us to delete your address entirely at any time.

If you just read the site

Our host records standard server information — the pages requested, approximate region, browser type — which we use in aggregate to see which articles are worth writing more of. We do not build profiles of individual readers.

Cookies

The site itself does not set advertising or tracking cookies. There are currently no affiliate links on it. When there are, the retailer you land on will set its own cookie so it can attribute the sale — that happens on their site, under their privacy policy, and we would have no access to it or to what you buy beyond an aggregate commission report.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell, rent or share your email address.
  • We do not run advertising networks or retargeting pixels.
  • We do not ask for personal details we have no use for. There is no account to create.
  • We do not knowingly collect information from children. This is a site for people buying things for children, not a site for children.

Your rights

Wherever you are, you can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will do it. Depending on where you live — the UK, the EU, California and others — you may have those rights in law as well. We do not intend to make you cite a statute to get a sensible answer.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will date the change at the top of this page and say what changed in the newsletter rather than updating it quietly.

Questions, or a request to see or delete what we hold: hello@messypig.com.

One useful email a fortnight

New scores, brands that finally answered, and any rule change that affects what you can buy. The list is not open yet — email us and we will add you when it is.
